Perceiving history as a resource for alternative narratives, ARCHIVO delves into a comprehensive understanding of lens-based media and photographic practice, recognising their profound impact on knowledge production. Established in 2012, ARCHIVO is dedicated to exploring photography and visual culture through collaborative initiatives spanning research, artistic practice, editorial and curatorial undertakings. Operating as a non-profit, under the auspices of the International Association for Photography and Visual Culture (IAPVC), the project comprises four main sections:

ARCHIVO PLATFORM

A digital hub fostering theoretical and critical interventions that bridge scholarship with artistic practice. This section encompasses an Interdisciplinary Network and a Visual LAB, providing researchers and artists with an enriching environment to share, discuss, and develop work within an international community of peers. It also serves as a platform for publishing and presenting ongoing research to a global audience through a Webinar Series, the Photofile Blog, and Open Sessions freely accessible to visitors. Moreover, serving as an educational resource, the platform hosts a Media Archive where members and visitors can access recordings of past events.

ARCHIVO PAPERS

A peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal (ISSN 2184-9218) dedicated to the practice, theory and criticism of photography and lens-based media. Embracing an expanded field, it explores photography and visual culture across diverse geographical and cultural contexts.
