Research fellowship by FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [SFRH/115113/2016]
Archivo Platform was founded in 2012 with the purpose of creating a space of reflection about photography and visual culture through debate around its current practices and discourses, provided by the collaboration with practitioners, writers and researchers who explore photography and lens based media. A quarterly bilingual journal — ArchivoZine, was edited from 2012 to 2016, publishing the work developed through the platform and featuring relevant names in the contemporary scene such as Joachim Schmid, Joan Fontcuberta, Ken Grant, Rosângela Rennó, Clare Strand, Natasha Caruana, Kurt Caviezel, António Júlio Duarte, Mark Durden, Margarida Medeiros, Katarzyna Majak, Louise Clements, Peggy Sue Amison, Rui Prata, among many others.
Since 2017, Archivo Platform is engaged with the research project REFRAMING THE ARCHIVE, focused on visual archives and its appropriations in artistic practice, with a particular interest on works that approach historical events and memory.
Visual work related to the archive will be regularly featured in SHOWROOM and in PORTFOLIO. Furthermore, talks, exhibitions and research seminars will be programmed, bringing together artists and scholars and contributing for the thinking and debate on the subject and its current state of the art.
