ARCHIVO is an independent research platform founded in 2012, dedicated to photography and visual culture through research, editorial and curatorial activities. Perceiving history as a resource for alternative narratives, the ARCHIVO PLATFORM engages in an in-depth understanding of lens-based media and photographic practice and its impact in knowledge production.
This platform explores a specific theme each year and defines itself through a programme of diverse events and activities developed within the Archivo Research Network whose associate and visiting researchers contribute to traverse different disciplines and foster theoretical, practical and critical interventions, creating links between scholarship, artistic and cultural practices. Such collaborations are presented through the production of original publications and public events, including the open access peer-reviewed journal Archivo Papers, a Webinar Series, a Visual LAB for artists and practitioners, among other activities, that bring together our associated researchers and guest speakers to further explore and discuss the year theme. Moreover, the Reframing the Archive, an international conference is presented annually and introduces the theme of the following year.
