International Symposium on Photography & Visual Culture
International Symposium on Photography & Visual Culture
NETWORK
The Archivo Network serves as a hub for scholars, researchers, artists, and professionals within visual culture, facilitating collaborative research endeavours centred around contemporary issues. Since its inception in 2021, the network has evolved into a dynamic platform, much anticipated since the beginning of the ARCHIVO project in 2012. With a primary focus on exploring the archive as a concept and archival practices through visual arts, the network fosters discussions that connect history, theory, and practice, facilitating critical approaches and exchange among its members.
MISSION
The network's mission is to bridge theory and practice, aiming for a comprehensive exploration of photography and visual culture. By providing a space where theory, and artistic expression intersect, we encourage experimental research and foster critical dialogue. This is achieved through diverse initiatives integrated into our annual programs, each aligned with the corresponding volume of the scholarly journal Archivo Papers.
COLLABORATION & PARTNERS
We are proud to collaborate with diverse academic institutions and cultural organisations, fostering meaningful partnerships that enrich the network's activities and amplify its impact. Past collaborations have been developed with institutions such as the University of the Arts London (UK); University of South Wales (UK); Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Spain); Universidad de Barcelona (Spain); Portuguese Center of Photography (Portugal); among others. Outputs from these collaborations can be accessed through our Media Archive.
