Recipient of the ARCHIVO Acquisition Prize 2025

We are pleased to invite you to the Artist Talk with Marianne Bjørnmyr, recipient of the ARCHIVO Acquisition Prize 2025, who will be presenting and discussing her project Cupaloy, developed during this year’s ARCHIVO LAB.

In Cupaloy, Marianne delves into the ways history is constructed, documented, and believed, inviting us to question how images shape our understanding of truth. Through photography and archival material, she examines the fragile mechanisms of memory and representation that underpin historical narratives. The project unfolds as an extensive visual archive, juxtaposing more than two hundred events that “shaped history as we know it” with others that “never happened.” By reordering and reinterpreting these materials, Marianne blurs the line between fact and fiction, revealing how the archive can both preserve and distort collective memory.

Marianne Bjørnmyr lives and works in Bodø, Norway. She received her MA in Photography from the London College of Communication. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at MELK Gallery (Oslo), Unseen Photo Festival (Amsterdam), Peckham24 (London), Copenhagen Photo Festival, and the Reykjavik Museum of Photography. She has published the books An Authentic Relation, Beneath the Salt, and Shadows/Echoes, and her work is held in public collections such as the North Norwegian Art Museum and The Arctic University of Norway (KORO). Marianne is also the co-founder and co-director of NOUA, an independent platform for photographic practices in Bodø.
