ABOUT
ARCHIVO’s Consulting & Mentoring offers personalised guidance for researchers, artists, curators, cultural practitioners, and other professionals working across photography, archives, and visual culture. Designed to respond to the specific needs of each participant, it provides tailored support for the development of research projects, artistic and visual practices, publications, exhibitions, or grant proposals.
Drawing on ARCHIVO’s interdisciplinary expertise, each consultation is centred on critical dialogue, constructive feedback, and strategic guidance. Whether supporting projects at an early conceptual stage or assisting with the development of work in progress, Consulting & Mentoring provides a collaborative environment that encourages rigorous thinking, methodological clarity, and professional development.
Consulting & Mentoring sessions may include, but are not limited to:

MENTORS
Gil Pasternak
De Montfort University
Professor of Photographic Cultures and Heritage in the Photographic History Research Centre (PHRC) at De Montfort University (UK), also serving as Europe & UK Editor of the quarterly Photography & Culture.
His research explores the reciprocal influence of political discourse and photographic practices, with his recent publications analysing intersections between photographic cultures, liberal-democratic aspirations and populist politics.
In 2018-2021, Pasternak led the European Commission funded research project Digital Heritage in Cultural Conflicts (DigiCONFLICT), investigating exploitations of digital technology in the political administration of visual history within nationally framed zones of cultural conflict.
Ana Catarina Pinho
IHA, Nova University of Lisbon
Associate research at the Instituto de História da Arte (IHA), Nova University of Lisbon. Her research explores how photography and archival practices shape cultural memory, with a focus on vernacular image cultures, historiographies of violence, and the visual regimes of propaganda and conflict. She is currently working on the FCT funded project Images of War: Photography and the Politics of Visuality in the Portuguese Colonial War.
In 2026, she has been a Visiting Scholar at the Photographic History Research Centre (PHRC), De Montfort University, and was awarded the Nadir Mohamed Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Image Centre, Toronto Metropolitan University. Since 2012, Pinho has been the founder and director of ARCHIVO, an independent research platform dedicated to photography and the archive.
